One of the things that bothers me is that there isn’t a real professional organization like the IEEE or the ASCE for software engineers. There are some programmers out there that write some frighteningly awful bullshit and don’t stop to think about the ramifications of their decisions. Computers are everywhere these days, and ethical decisions about what we do with those computers are literally around every corner. Each Experian data breach is the equivalent of a Tay River Bridge incident to the computer science industry, and yet nobody seems to want to do anything about it.
