That may well be. We’re surely mature enough to dissect which beliefs qualify as beyond the pale and which don’t. IMO, in modern-day America a mainstream, peaceful Christian belief doesn’t.

Huh? Why the heck would I do that? I have to admit I’m totally missing your point here. In a free society members have the right to debate each other about the relative merits of their beliefs and critique them. That arrangement works fantastically well for Jews and just about everyone else in America (except extremist Muslims, their leftist fellow travelers, and sundry other supremacists).
