On a more positive note, I’ll just post something I came across on Facebook…food for thought, next time you find yourself falling into a monolithic view of a culture or country:

Some have asked about the reactions of locals around me to yesterday’s news, or the tv images of American’s dancing in the streets of Washington and New York: “Is Pakistan Upset with America?” Well ~ from my perspective ~ the majority of Pakistan’s citizens live a daily struggle for basic necessities - food, clean water, shelter and safety. The reported finding and death of OBL was shocking to locals who now fear that diverse global reactions and political backlashes to the news may jeopardize Pakistan’s fragile stability even more. Quite honestly - they don’t have time to dance in the streets, and most people my family and I interact with aren’t concerned with US citizens doing it either… they are simply too busy trying to live on less than 1 US dollar a day. Politicians living in million dollar homes while locals go hungry…or world famous terrorists living in million dollar homes while locals go hungry… they both make my other neighbours and I equally upset.
