So you have to wait until you get assaulted before you defend yourself? Not saying that’s what happened, but pre-emptive punches can sometimes be legit, IMO. Depends on the situation.

And in the eyes of the law, you are the aggressor if you throw the first punch - _no matter what_. It may not be fair, but it is what it is.
