This one hits close to home as it affeceted my mother’s older sister who coordinated with Soviet Purchasing and Technology Types while Working at Eastern Aircraft (Grumman built by GM at Linden, NJ) during WW II as her First Language WAS Russian.
Martha taught me to read when I was three in Both the Latin AND Cyrillic Alphabets. Because of her experience, I learned the Latin Alphabet as my language and the Cyrillic as phonetics only, No Language. That was her and MY loss, had things been otherwise, I would have read and understood Russian as well as English.
