That’s the talking point the Greenwald cult uses when you point out that tech companies like Google and Facebook are far more intrusive — you grant them PERMISSION to be intrusive.

We give the same permission to cell phone companies to harvest and sell our metadata. Sell it to inter-continental marketing conglomerates, the NSA, whoever.

I fail to see any difference.
