On top of that, most of the assholes invoking MLK Jr. to pooh-pooh at people demanding justice for racial equality tend to invoke him in a juvenile way that strips his words of the context that belies one of the hard truths that he kept confronting: shit is bad for black people and ignoring racism and denying its effects does as much as much to perpetuate it as being an active supporter of racist policy. Being willfully oblivious or ignorant just helps those with all the power in the top-down structure.

Instead, assholes take his words as ‘outwardly ignore race and racism, pretend they don’t exist, and then everything will be peachy-keen!’
