The Right has never accepted that misogynistic talk is not OK. During the presidential primaries, they were willing to make all kinds of grotesque smears about Hilary Clinton. They didn’t quite know what to do with a black man -because they’d gotten the memo that the *n* word wasn’t going to fly any more. It took them quite a while to come up with the “secret muslim” and “Kenyan colonialist” code words. But nothing is too trashy to say about a woman, nobody will call you on it.

To be fair, the double standard is larger than this. While people were grossed out by the Time cover showing the woman with her nose cut off in Afghanistan, there wasn’t nearly the outcry that there would be if a nation somewhere were reenslaving black men. But that’s another whole argument.

Black men are being enslaved in various regions—it never stopped—and the world is largely indifferent, with notable exceptional individuals and organizations being the exception to this rule.
