Would somebody like to point out to Mr. Kyl that it was statements like his own, early into the committe’s work, declaring a refusal to consider defense cuts in the final proposal, that might have sunk any chances of coming to an agreement?

As long as we have people flying 45 year old planes in combat, defense cuts shouldn’t be on the table. Get our people out of Afghanistan, then we can talk defense cuts.

We wouldn’t need to, because what we spend annually to keep our people there would easily pay for upgraded military hardware.
