I’m surprised Erdogan hasn’t been taken down yet. But that’s pretty awful itself. Erdogan & Co must think themselves quite privileged.

Turkey’s had a brilliant economic run as of late, and a lot of people credit the AKP for that winning streak. Like they say, people vote with their pocketbooks. In fairness to the AKP, they have done a good job economically speaking - it’s their biggest strength.

What also assists the AKP is that their main opposition, the CHP, is still somewhat fragmented and searching for a new internal direction in order to have greater appeal to the Turkish electorate.
