My husband is in the auto parts business. He’s been saying for the past several years that it will die out eventually. Look likes it’s nearer than we anticipated.

Some older cars still get great fuel efficiency. Last fill-up, I found I got 35.8 MPG in a 1999 Honda Civic with almost 170,000 miles.
I’d have to get a hybrid to do better, and most of my driving is highway, where hybrids don’t see that much of an improvement.
