I didn’t know that about Hill. An interesting Confederate general is Patrick Cleburne. He proposed emancipating the slaves and allowing them to fight in the army. He was turned down of course.

One of my cousins actually found out that we had an ancestor who had fought for the Union at the Battle of Franklin, where Cleburne was killed. He was an excellent officer and deserved a better fate than to have been thrown against Union troops in entrenched positions who outgunned his men (many of the Union soldiers he faced in the battle were armed with breech loaders).
