Also, I know as a fact that the insurance industry (in aggregate, not just health insurance) does not make money from the bread and butter of their business: namely, the premiums they receive do not make up for what they have to pay their clients in cases of disaster coverage, accidents, whatever is covered. The way they make their money is through investing the money they receive in periodic payments/premiums, mostly by loaning it out and earning some interest on it, before they occasionally pay it back in big chunks to clients to honor their coverage obligations.
