I have never believed those who pretend to be Satan-worshippers for career-enhancement reasons were actually so. However, I have known plenty of apparently good people , who take in many , whose motives were far from holy.
The Scots have a proverb : “Beware the unco’ guid” IE those who appear overly holy.
