Why not directly “neo-fascists”?

Primarily because their idealized economics differ. Neo Reactionaries are into Libertarian / Anarcho Capitalist / Austrian School laissez faire dumbshittery, whereas the historical, actual, real world Nazi’s embraced too many inconvenient command economy measures.

What’s weird is that they want a state, they just want it to be a monarchy / feudalistic one and not a democracy, not elected. How they reconcile this with their free market economies remains a mystery. They want a strong, unelected government that controls everything from foreign policy to gender roles in society, but that magically doesn’t have Nazi Germany’s labor, wage and price controls.
