So Hamas won that round. And they punished badly (I thought Israel ended too soon, but that’s another debate). How else - without elections - was the debate ever going to move forward?

Now, the election strategy is paying dividends in Iraq. Do you think the folks elsewhere in the ME don’t see that? Had Bush/Rice not pushed for free elections than the Iraqi success would be seen in a different light.
