The reason Chick-fil-a should be viewed with suspicion is that its board decided to pierce the corporate veil and make donations to anti-gay groups that were written from the company checkbook. That raises legitimate questions in any community that has enacted legislation safeguarding equal rights in employment and public accommodation that includes sexual orientation as a protected class. This isn’t to say that Chick-fil-a can’t run a business that adheres to such local ordinances, but that there is a real reason not to simply give them the benefit of the doubt.
