Sadly, most people don’t do much more than read/scan headlines and will refer to fact check type pieces rather than examine what was actually said and verify on their own. Many don’t have the time or want to go through the effort of doing the work themselves.

At a minimum, one should look at a couple of different “fact check” sites - to gain a consensus on what was said.

After all, most people just aren’t that involved in politics and wont engage in politics until they even bother to show up at the polls (but everyone will bitch and moan that X was or wasn’t done by candidate Y when they take office, regardless of whether they vote or not).
