WA is a stand your ground state. Case law makes it practically a Castle Law state. The person defending has to articulate a reasonable fear of serious injury or death. That has been frequently interpreted as I was afraid he was in my house.
I’ve lived in states all over this country, and whenever possible I’ve lived in rural areas. I believe it to be smart to check with the local law enforcement authorities to guage their opinions on self-defense.
The general concensus has boiled down to, “I’ve never arrested anyone for shooting someone that fell dead lying on the threshold.”
Generally followed by, *whispered* “We don’t spend a whole lot of time looking at drag marks in the lawn, either.”
