If you wanna put General Lee up on private property, the I guess that is your good right. Just do not honor the Confederacy with public money or on public property.

granted, el-hi american history was a long time ago for me, so maybe this is fuzzy, revisionist, and muddled.

the way i remember it, the civil war was presented more or less as part of the common heritage of a single country that went through some turmoil, fought it out and then came to terms and moved on.

something like a husband and wife have a fight, maybe even separate, then reconcile. the marriage was continuous.

yes, of course reality was very different. we were not ‘a country divided’. the south in fact, left the union. they became the enemy of the union. they chose to fight a war against the union. they lost.

what im getting at is this kind of simplistic thinking (a single country divided and then healed) led and probably still leads many people to not get why celebrating secession and the taking up of arms against the ‘actual’ United States is perpetuating a lie and a myth.
