We actually got to do proper agile at my job once and proced something both functional and usable. One of those rare wins.

Part of the problem with the job that I had where we actually sat with users during the design process was that I was being asked to design user interfaces. That is not my strong suit. I am horrible at it. And the bosses wouldn’t pay for a proper graphics designer, choosing instead to utilize the boss’s son, who, to be fair, was intelligent and capable, but also manifestly unhelpful.
