Do not even know if that claim is substantiated, other than to point out that Jews were in no way a part of the Tsarist autocratic power structure like the Orthodox Church was.

Excellent point. I don’t get all the cries from the Orthodox here to return the Church’s property to it (which, unfortunately, is being done). The Church was the part of the state. It acquired this property on the taxpayers’ dime. AFAIC, the state (the new state, that is) was in its right to do whatever it wanted with that property (though I don’t condone many things that were done, indeed).

And yes, Bolsheviks, and later Communists, were suppressing all religions.
