My stocks had increased in value by 50% over the past couple of years, and that’s where it was about 3-4 weeks ago.
That is now down to 17%.

Forgive me if my statement was a tad harsh. People close to retirement, or retired, should not have a lot of money in equities. A lot of people are, though, and that doesn’t make them stupid (or crazy, as I said). Just incorrectly balanced in their portfolio. A lot of people think “everything’s going to be good” when they should be thinking, “how do I protect myself?”
