re: #612 A Mom Anon

Can someone tell me what the problem is with making sure a person who wants a gun is properly trained and licensed? You have to have at least rudimentary skills to get a driver’s license, why is it such a big issue to have to meet some basic requirements for gun ownership?

It goes back to the founders utter fear of standing armies. Only tyrants had a standing army and only a free militia, and every freeman must own a gun, could stop said standing army. This grew out of the bitter experiences of the English Civil War and the varied religious wars on the continent. Unarmed peasants were slaughtered while freemen could have a fighting chance.

I personally have no problem with a training/licensing system but in exchange would want the NFA of 1934 & the GCA of 1968 repealed as well.
