The problem is not that the “UN is crap”, but that in too many respsects it fails to accomplish the lofty ideals for which it was founded. To a large extent, that is a function of the organization’s structural defect, in that control of many of its organs is in the hands of countries that have no respect for democracy, freedom or human rights, and that use the institutions of the UN to pervert those values and to protect themselves and their allies. The UN’s treatment of Israel is merely a symptom of this deeper structural problem.

Which is not to say that the UN doesn’t do some good things, or that there is no beneficial purpose to having an organization which brings the world’s leaders together for dialogue. But one need only look at the farce that is Durban III, which, under the UN’s rubric is about to despoil New York City only days after we mark the somber 10th anniversary of 9/11, to recognize that the UN is an organization in serious need of a major overhaul, but that might not be capable of being fixed. Sometimes a structure cannot be renovated. It has to be torn down and a new edifice built in its place.

Do you have any suggestions about how the “NUN” (New version of the UN) should be structured to avoid creating the problems you see in the last one?

Before an old structure is torn down it is incumbent upon the people demolishing it to have a clear idea for how to build something better in its place.
