An example of a purely secular murderous culture-based homophobia is the prison culture on the ex-Soviet territory where a penetrated male traditionally became barely human and basically ritually unclean (can’t touch others etc.). (That the ones penetrating also engage in a homosexual act makes the situation somewhat less clean-cut, but still.)
