re: #607 MandyManners

I’m very far from being an “Evangelical” (a term that is “loaded” whenever used in discussions of politics), and the only Mormon I knew of in MA was Mitt Romney himself. In other words, I have no Religious dog in this fight. But, the bigotry against Romney came out of the media, while the distaste for “Evangelicals” seems to come from the general population. Too many years of watching TV preachers mired in scandal, too many instances of madmen using the Church as cover for their cults and too many instances of folksy, homespun veneer plastered on billion dollar “Religious” Corporations has rendered the word Evangelical anathema to many voters.
I’ve also noticed that whenever the MSM does a story about Evangelicals (more properly any ONE Evangelical), they use numbers that seem wildly disproportionate to my experience. I mean, they’ll show some Evangelical preacher making some wacky pronouncement or engaging in a Carny Roadshow Mass and then add “…there are 25 million voters who share his views”.
I think Romney will be able to overcome the bigotry agaiinst his faith far more easily than anyone who proclaims themselves an Evangelical.
