For several years I couldn’t even listen to Bonnie Raitt because one of her songs was sadly associated with a relationship breakup that nearly destroyed me.

Now that history just makes her music better for me.

‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ came out just as my first marriage disintegrated. Bonnie’s vocals and Hornsby’s piano make it one of the most beautiful melancholy songs ever. It still makes me sad whenever I hear it.
