me: say dude bro, i couldn’t help overhearing your conversation about the killings down south.
dude bro: yeah. it’s terrible.
me: i know right? terrorism in our own country. scary.
db: well, those people were pakis. not americans.
me: um, they were americans. pakistani americans. and you know “paki” is a really bad thing to call someone right?
db: not if they’re terrorists.
me: yeah, even if they’re terrorists. it makes you a fucking racist. dont say it. at least not out loud in the street.
db: i can say whatever i want old man. (he called me OLD MAN!).
me: (leaning in really close to the guy, looking right in his eyes, my hand gently on his shoulder, and whispering) listen fella, i got no patience for your racism. i really need you and your friends to walk the fuck out of this coffee shop. so please, turn around and make some excuse. shit’s gonna get ugly in like 10 seconds. ok? be a good boy and run along.
