Yeah, I think he’s just trying to appeal to the regressive instinct among his viewers.

I’ve noticed that tendency in Conservative culture for a few years now… the longing for an idealized past, some idyllic model of life to be preserved like a fly in amber, or restored… faux melancholy over an imaginary fall from grace. I see it as an extension of the expulsion from the Garden of Eden theme, culturally — and an inability to cope with the present and the future, thus retreating into the past from comfort — psychologically. No matter the angle, it’s f***ed.
