Usually everyone says everything they can think of about the initial topic. Unless a hot debate is sparked, or new news comes in, people start to run out of things to say. Then the thread is basically an open thread until Charles posts something new.

There was a convention at one time to try to stay on-topic for the first hundred posts, but it doesn’t always happen, especially if the thread topic is something that we’ve been discussing extensively for a few threads.
