Actually starlings are bad as well in a different way - they compete with songbirds for nest holes, which would be fine, if they weren’t so numerous. That’s why you may see artificial bird boxes in parks and what not, to try and give bluebirds, etc… a chance. I just got into the birdwatching thing a couple years ago. Very relaxing. Except for the squirrels.

Yes, I guess you and Alouette are right about the starlings. I probably haven’t yet had a chance to fully appreciate their obnoxiousness. They truly are pests and it seems there’s no end to them. But, again, we didn’t have them before this past winter. It used to just be the house finches that pigged out at the feeders. These starlings are much, much worse.

I didn’t pay much attention to the birds when I lived in Philadelphia. All we had were pigeons and whatever it was that made a nest every year in the eaves just outside my bedroom window (very noisy). What a difference a few dozen miles makes!
