I know that a lot of you didn’t watch the Kennedy wake/funeral.
I did, from start to finish.

Ted Kennedy was a outspoken liberal, and it was rare for me to be in political agreement with him. But I’m willing to admit today that I secretly admired his tenacity, his many years of service in the Senate, and his lifelong advocacy for the poor, downtrodden and voiceless.

He made many mistakes, of course, and had many personal failures. Some of those mistakes were more glaring than others.

But Kennedy was a quintessential Irishman, and he lived like one. Many unknown and very private details of his personal life were revealed over the course of the last few days, including the touching contents of the letter that he wrote to the Pope. And I can’t help but feel that when all was said and done, Kennedy was able to experience forgiveness and redemption for his personal failures and make his peace with God.

In retrospect, I find myself thinking today that I could be doing more with my own life.
