re: #662 Anymouse

I own a shotgun because I enjoy shooting defenceless skeet.

I also live sixteen miles from the sheriff office. If the only car the sheriff has is on the other side of the county, it is an hour from my home.

While urban areas such as New York or Chicago or San Francisco have quite a number of police, a rural area like my county covering thousands of square miles with only one sheriff and one deputy cannot police everywhere at once.

I do not know the solution for gun control, though I would favour both owner insurance and titles (similar to a house or car so when the firearm is transferred a record of its transfer is available). I am also in favour of hammering anyone who fails to report the theft of a firearm (surprisingly, as expensive as guns are, thefts are ofttimes not reported due to wingnuttery claiming the government has no right to know who owns what firearm. Screw that. I have no problem with the government knowing I own a shotgun - despite all the derp, the government is not going to seize my gun unless I prove myself a danger with it.)

There definitely needs to be some registration and yes punishment for failing to report a stolen or missing firearm.
