BDS was used to bring down apartheid South Africa as well. The Reagan Administration also disparaged it, though the GOP did not try to pass laws making it illegal to boycott.

The objections they are making now to BDS have nothing to do with the actual or perceived mistreatment of Palestinians. It has to do with stripping the rights of Americans. Boycotts are constitutionally-protected acts under the I Amendment.
