I have to say I’m coming to a similar conclusion. The leak is horrible and BP made some tragic decisions. But since the leak BP has been conducting a veritable Manhattan project in addressing the leak. Yet they are getting demonised for everything they do and say and are fighting a losing battle staying in the US.

Once they have killed this well, they should really consider the value in maintaining their US subsidiary. Of course they won’t, they will pay out many hundreds of millions in excess of the statutory liability cap, and many hundreds of millions more to remain in the US market. Yet deep-water drilling in the US may be finished for a decade or more. This will be discussed in the BP board room.
