That’s something I’ve been saying for quite some time; the only way to reduce dependency on oil and natural gas is to build nuclear - which can provide compact siting and sufficient energy to replace existing coal, gas, or oil plants (and meet new demand). Wind power is never going to amount to anything more than a small percentage of energy production because of the land use needs. California is pretty much prohibiting any solar or wind development in the Mojave Desert (thanks Feinstein). Vistas and views over power production in sparsely populated areas. And it doesn’t even begin to touch on the need to string power lines to these far flung wind power farms (that’s what killed a T Boone Pickens plan in Texas).

Pickens had a sweet deal going if someone else picket up the massive tab fot the grid..anyway the obvious solution are cut down nukes like the Hyperion, installed here and there where the weakened/aging grid cam be up graded as needed…we need to get a trial run going to see how these would work, and I see little reason why they won’t….but people just won’t budge…and it’s all tied in with water shortages in CA, who could lead the charge
