I read Zombie’s headscarf article. The second paragraph seems to imply that the policewomen will be expected to cover their hair whenever entering a mosque for any reason, whether they’re off-duty and attending prayers as a form of community outreach, or reporting to the mosque while on duty in order to investigate a crime in progress. And to me, that’s just plain wrong. As it would be wrong for a rabbi to stop a male policeman at the door of a synagogue and say “you can’t continue chasing that mugger in here unless you put on this yarmulke.”
