First paragraph of the AP story in today’s paper:

In a major victory for President Barack Obama, Democrats muscled a $787 billion stimulus bill through Congress late Friday in hopes of combating the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.

1. Why did it have to be “muscled through” when both houses of Congress are Democrat-controlled?
2. It is not the worst crisis since the Depression. Carter’s era of malaise beats the current conditions by a mile.
3. Nice juxtaposition of the Republican vote. Makes it seem like they want another Depression.
