re: #664 Alouette

Is Obama really that clueless that he thinks people drive old clunkers because they are must meanyheads who want to foul up the environment? Has it really never occurred to him that people drive old cars because they can’t afford to buy new cars?

Doofus.

Other reasons are out there, too.

In the ’70s, cars got crappy for a while. The unproven smog controls just sucked the power right out of them. So, from ‘74 up until sometimes in the ’80s I wouldn’t buy a new car. I ran ’60s era cars, and got better mileage with more power.

When I was driving 1500+ miles per week for work, I bought used because you don’t want to buy brand new when you’re going to be upside down on your payments when the ride is worn out. You buy a cheap older luxury vehicle and run it into the ground.
