I think the moral issue is that this country was founded on a social contract that, as the preamble states, is to support “the common good”. In this modern time, the common good is to ensure that all citizens of this country are fed, clothed, sheltered, educated, and healthy. That gives them all the opportunity to achieve. You apparently disagree, with this Ayn Rand guff. The Virtue of Selfishness is at direct odds with the Founder’s philosophy.

Indeed it is, and their writings bear that out. Many of the founders were Deists, but the Christian ideal of serving one’s fellow man remained important to them. They were right, of course, as was William F. Buckley when he steered conservatives away from Rand and her inhumane Objectivism. Sometimes I find myself wanting to shout as Wordsworth wanted to shout.

“Buckley, thou shouldst be living at this Hour! America has need of thee!” Alas, he is gone, and people of his stature are sorely needed in conservatism is to right itself.
