We’ll see soon enough. I think the Russians are serious and will likely follow through on their threats. I’m more doubtful about our threats about responses which may not materialize. There are plenty of possibilities here but I have a had time envisioning a great US-EU victory out of this.

Yep, we’ll see. It could be that the Russians may not have some “grand strategy” up their sleeve, and sort of impetuously rushed into this without thinking it all the way through to a conclusion.

As for the wingnuts, I’d be willing to bet money that if Obama suddenly went to DEFCON 2, told NATO, “We’re rolling into Ukraine, and we ain’t stoppin’ till we reach the Kremlin” and then began airstrikes against Russian positions in Crimea, that squishy-squelchy-farty sound you would hear would be the wingnuts simultaneously filling their underwear, and once they’d regained control of their bowels, the next thing you’d hear is OH MY GOD OBAMA’S GONNA GET US ALL KILLED!.
