The Trump presidency really kinda screwed up the media outlets. The abundance of scandals and failures coming out of Washington meant that they got easy ratings and didn’t really have to work for their stories. Now things in Washington are trending towards normal, but they’re trying to exploit the same lazy formulas, with a side helping of “both sides are bad” (in their political reporting, at least) in a failed attempt to look fair and unbiased after covering the Trump train wreck for 4+ years.
