Yeah, that’s entirely possible. I know one Vietnamese shop assistant was quite surprised to see me buying a can; she said outright to me, in English, “You must not be Czech, because Czechs don’t like root beer. They say it tastes like cough medicine. Where are you from?”

So when I told her I was from Los Angeles, she wasn’t surprised at all.
