re: #30 keloyd

Given her lack of curiosity on every subject outside of shopping, given her lack of depth, given her total self-absorbtion, what is the probability that she would care about the use of this word if she hadn’t had a son with Down Syndrome?

In other news, the Wall Street Journal had a longish article about families with adult Down Syndrome members. George Will’s son has the same thing. Many can get driver’s licenses.

I’m pretty damn sure she wouldn’t speak out if it weren’t for her son, but on the other hand, having a family member with a particular disability or circumstance has made activists out of stranger people than Palin.

And the world has definitely become a better place for those with Down in a lot of ways. Educationally and in terms of making regular adult things like driving and dating and holding down a job, we’ve learned a lot over the past few generations.
