Meg Whitman breaks US campaign spending records

Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for California governor, has surpassed New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg for the highest personal contribution in American campaign history.

Whitman’s campaign reported another $15 million contribution late Tuesday, bringing her personal donation to $119 million.

The billionaire former eBay chief executive’s spending surpasses the previous record of $108 million set by Bloomberg in his bid for a third term last year. […]

Mid-term elections here turn out a little over 8 million votes for the Governor’s office. Even if she does as well as Arnold (and I don’t expect her to do so) and gets 4.8 million votes, that means she would have already spent about $25/vote.

If the woman would just send me a check for $25 it’d be more efficient and less annoying and I’d bend.
