Not only did they bugger with the mileage of the trade-ins they’ve buggered the mileage on the new cars.
One I was looking at had, on the window sticker, an EPA combined mileage of 21mpg. On the web site? 19mpg.
I wonder why they would be different…
Oh. Cuz the government is Just F***ed Up.
What’s really effing awful is that several potential buyers cut deals based on the upcoming check, got their information from the EPA website and signed the deal - only to find out that the figures had changed since they looked at them, and the checks wouldn’t be cut because they didn’t qualify on the newly-published mileage ratings.
The right thing to do - and what would have been forced on any private company making a similar offer and mistake - would be to honor the original mileages, PLUS any newly-qualifying cars that met the new figures. But, no - fuck the consumers, we’re the EPA and we can do whatever we want, including changing the rules in midstream.
