Sadly, part of having mental illness often involves not understanding that you’re actually sick, lacking the ability to get treatment, and/or not trusting anyone to help.

Indeed, it’s a huge, multi-faceted problem. Living on the street can make you a little cagey in short order. Particularly for women. They also get attacked/raped more often.

I would mention that it would serve communities to have more shelters and help people get on their feet, especially if children are involved. Not that that hasn’t been cut also.

I’ve debated about doing a page about the homeless people I’ve met. I’m one of those who gives them money and food. I just don’t know if there’s an interest.
