re: #667 Stanley Sea

I generally do not like SOTU speeches - the clapping, interruptions etc. Today I remember the more center points - small business, cutting taxes, nuclear. I liked the ending too. Not really deep review here Walter, but I’m still tired.

I’m basically on the same page here. I find political pageantry and theater generally irritating, and especially the ridiculously overwrought coverage off it by most of the media (“will he show leadership!?”, “what mistakes will he admit?”, “will he show the American people he feels their pain?”).

For this SotU, I felt the strongest parts were the long stretches at the beginning and end that were uninterrupted by applause. I disliked the litanies referencing specific people and towns that seem to be required in political speeches these days. I was fine with the substance, though I disliked his plugging clean coal (while understanding the political realities of it).
