Right. The way I read it was every order. You are correct, but if you intend to fight the legality of said order, you better be damn sure it’s illegal!

I was technically correct, but it still cost me. The issue was that I’d not slept in 36 hours (watches and work parties), and refused to do (night) flight deck duty (plane captain) because I felt myself unsafe. The “technical legal limit” was 38 hours. Flight deck launch/recovery would have put things at 40 hours.

They could have busted me to E-1, but I was not about to become a liability to my shipmates.

Commander at Captain’s mast did the right thing.
